Pavilion completed 2010
by Teton Timberframe
The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Teton Valley branch master plan was a collaboration between Natural Dwellings Architecture, Harmony Design & Engineering, and Hanson Illustration. We worked closely with the NOLS Staff to create a vision for growth and expansion on the existing campus near Darby Canyon in Teton Valley, Idaho. Proposed future facilities incorporate recycled and locally harvested construction materials, passive solar design, alternative energy uses, low-water use xeriscape landscaping and other green technologies. Work on the additions and renovations of the campus are ongoing. The pavilion is a timber-frame structure designed to house outdoor functions on the NOLS campus. The large covered area is used for backpacking trip preparations, outdoor dining, and meetings. It is designed to include an outdoor kitchen and strawbale and willow ‘wind’ wall.. The upper deck is a living roof designed for further meeting space and a place for students to view the Teton valley and mountains that surround campus.
